HSU seeks consistent weekend of home action

Megan Shields (32)
ARCATA - Following a mixed bag of road results last weekend, Humboldt State will seek a consistent weekend of home court action.

A road split last week in the tough California Collegiate Athletic Association ranks is a measure of success in itself for the Lumberjacks. HSU, though, readies for a consistent 80 minutes of home-court advantage against Sonoma State on Thursday evening,

before San Francisco State comes to Lumberjack Arena on Saturday night.

Jacks try to correct mixed results

Kersey Wilcox willed the Jacks to overtime and guided the team to its second overtime victory of the year on Friday night at Cal State Monterey Bay, 65-53.

Wilcox tied the contest with a pair of free throws with two seconds to send it to overtime where she netted seven of HSU's 14 points. She finished with a season-high 25 points (7 of 11 field goals) and eight rebounds. Dani Gaumer produced her first career double-double of 12 points and 10 boards.

The extra period momentum did not last for HSU against CCAA front-runner Cal State East Bay on Saturday evening. The Pioneers finished the first half strong, then started the second half with a 15-2 run in the first five minutes to make it past the Lumberjacks.

Elle Anderson led HSU with 10 points.

HSU sets to even home mark

Over its first 10 contests, HSU has only taken the floor of Lumberjack Arena three times. The number will almost double with the home pair of affairs this week.

The Jacks have fallen short in their first and last home games to UC San Diego (71-63) and Cal Poly Pomona (79-71), two of the CCAA's top four squads. Humboldt claimed victory over Cal State San Bernardino between the defeats, 73-61.

The numbers appear to be on the Jacks' side heading into the coming meetings. HSU holds a 10-4 mark with identical 5-2 current records against both Sonoma State and San Francisco State since joining the CCAA ranks in the 2006-07 campaign.
