LOS ANGELES – Humboldt State men's soccer produced a late charge, but No. 20 Cal State Los Angeles fought it off to record the victory, 3-1, on Sunday afternoon.
Trailing 2-1, the Lumberjacks (8-5-1/4-4 California Collegiate Athletic Association) attempted five shots and three corner kicks in the final 20 minutes of play only to come up empty.
Connor Wilkinson put HSU on the scoreboard first. The junior's 22-yard free kick found the back of the net at 4:45 to give the Jacks a 1-0 lead.
The visitors' advantage did not last long as the Eagles' Shane Panther headed the ball in from seven yards to tie the match, 1-1, at 10:02.

Luke Bunjovac took one shot and had a second one (35:23) saved by the Eagles' keeper Mike Beigarten.
In the 43
rd minute, Cal State Los Angeles (11-2/7-1 CCAA) edged ahead, 2-1, on a Dane Nelson tap in off a free kick.
After an Allan Castillo shot was saved at 63:24, the Jacks' late charge started seven minutes later.
Quintin Aguilar's header (70:38) was saved and two-straight HSU corner kicks, before a
Riki Michael attempted was saved (80:02).
Kenji Murao tried to knock in the rebound 10 seconds later only to have it go wide.
HSU kept the pressure on with a third corner kick in five minutes. After the corner,
Austin Swartz's header (83:02) and a boot (85:34) both went wide of the mark for HSU's final attempts.
The Eagles added the final score of the day in the final seconds off a rebound for the 3-1 final.

The Jacks return home for the final two times next weekend. HSU will entertain No. 9 Cal Poly Pomona Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.
