ARCATA, Calif. – Despite trailing the majority of the match, No. 8 Cal Poly Pomona scored a late goal to tie and added the game-winner in the first overtime to edge Humboldt State, 2-1, in men's soccer Friday afternoon.
At 11:07, the Lumberjacks (8-6-1/4-5 California Collegiate Athletic Association) struck first when
Sam Wahl directed a deflection into the goal for a 1-0 lead. HSU kept the lead for the next 72 minutes of play.
The Broncos (15-0-1/9-0 CCAA) kept its shot barrage on the home goal. Daniel Garcia, Jr. converted the visitors' 14
th second half shot to tie the match, 1-1, at 83:54. Neither squad was able to break the deadlock in the final six minutes of regulation.
With 2:49 left in the first overtime, Cal Poly Pomona's Abiel Coronado tapped in a loose ball into the lower left part of the goal for the game-winner.
