Kenji Murao could not have picked a better way to score his first goal of the season. With less than three minutes left in double overtime, Murao blasted a 35-yard scoring strike to propel Humboldt State over San Francisco State, 3-2, in Sunday men's soccer action.

Murao belted the long blistering shot from the left side, off a
Austin Swartz short pass, into the upper right corner of the net for his first goal of the season.
"It seems like someone new is stepping up to make the difference in every game and tonight was no different as Kenji stepped up with a great game-winning goal in overtime," said HSU Head Coach
Fred Jungemann.
The Lumberjacks' (8-1-1) victory was their third overtime win in the past four matches. The HSU win also extended their unbeaten run to nine matches and kept it atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings at a perfect 4-0 record. The unblemished CCAA start added to the program's best league start to a season and equals last year's league win total. The Sunday win was also the second 2-0 CCAA weekend in a row.
"I know it may sound a little redundant, but today was another great win against a tough CCAA opponent. San Francisco State were very organized and fought hard for the entire game," said the Jacks' coach. "Our guys are just on a roll, and they amaze me more every game with their ability to find ways to win. We gave up an early goal today, but the guys did not get down and worked hard to get themselves back into the game.
After being down 1-0 at half, the Jacks were able to strike twice within a three-minute period early in the second 45 period. Junior forward
Braxton Griffin drew a penalty shot and converted the attempt at 54:21 to tie the match, 1-1.
Three minutes later off a
Connor Wilkinson corner kick, Swartz touched the ball over to
Riki Michael, who found the left side of the net open for HSU's first lead, 2-1, at 57:16.
The Jacks appeared to be in control until an opportunistic play for the Gators (5-3-2/1-2-1 CCAA). San Francisco State's Matias Rodriguez tapped in a HSU miscue to knot the match, 2-2, with 15:02 left in the second half.
HSU produced the lone two first overtime shots and held a 4-2 second overtime shot advantage, before Murao's late game-winner.
Jacks' goalie
Javier Torres stopped six Gator shots.
"It has been a great start to the season, but we have to keep our heads on straight and get focused for next weekend two more tough games at home," said Jungemann.
HSU returns to action on Friday against rival Chico State starting at 3 p.m.
