Full Game Notes
ARCATA, Calif. - After its most successful two-week homestand in years, Humboldt State volleyball heads to southern California for more success this week.
After a 4-1 record in the five-match homestand, the Lumberjacks head to the road for this weekend's California Collegiate Athletic Association matches. In the longest road trip of the season, HSU heads to the Los Angeles area for a Friday night match against Cal State Los Angeles and a Saturday evening match versus Cal State Dominguez Hills in 7 p.m. first serves.
REVERSAL OF FORTUNES
In the next step in the program's growth, the Jacks reversed their fortunes against three CCAA opponents – CSU San Bernardino, UC San Diego and Cal Poly Pomona – and snapped two long losing streaks.
HSU went into last week a combined 1-47 against the three league foes and produced a 2-1 week with the only loss coming in five sets. The Jacks broke a 16-match losing streak to Cal State San Bernardino with a 3-1 win last Wednesday, before they ended a 15-match streak of futility against Cal Poly Pomona (3-0) on Saturday.
SEEK FIRST BACK-TO-BACK DOUBLE DIGIT WIN SEASONS IN 15 YEARS
For the first time in 15 years, HSU seeks its first back-to-back double digit win seasons. After finishing 12-17 a year ago, the Jacks head into the week with a 9-4 mark, one win away from the second double figure win campaign in a row.
The last time HSU recorded 10-plus win seasons in a row came under head coach Tina Raddish's 1999 (15-11) and 1998 (10-16) teams.
AIM TO EXCEED CCAA VICTORIES
After increasing its league wins from one to seven last fall, HSU aims to exceed its CCAA season wins this weekend.
The Jacks (6-3) are one victory awaw from equalling last season's win total and can exceed it with a Los Angeles sweep.
OWEN HITS 50 KILLS
In an almost perfect week on the court, Ashley Owen topped the HSU frontline. Owen hit 50 kills in the 12 sets for an average of 4.17 kills per set last week.
Owen led the team's hitters with 16 kills in the upset of then No. 8 CSU San Bernardino Wednesday.
The senior followed it up with her highest kill total of the year with 24 kills, seven digs and a pair of blocks in the five-set loss to UC San Diego Thursday.
The outside hitter was the match's lone double figure kill producer with 10 kills in the 3-0 victory over Cal Poly Pomona.
Owen is fourth in the CCAA with 174 kills and seventh with 3.35 kills per set.
