ARCATA, Calif. - After a successful opening weekend, Humboldt State women's basketball makes a second trip north to face a third Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe this week.

The Lumberjacks play the Wolves of Western Oregon in Monmouth, Ore., in a Saturday afternoon 2 p.m. contest.

First Meeting in Three Years

HSU and Western Oregon meet for the first time in three seasons this weekend.

The opponents met twice each season when both programs were GNAC members from 2001-02 through the 2005-06 seasons.

In the last meeting, the Jacks captured a 77-63 victory in Arcata on December 10, 2011.

The Wolves garnered a win in the last series game held in Monmouth, 83-76, on November 20, 2010.

HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason is 10-2 against Western Oregon in her 11 years guiding the team.

Wilcox Earns First Season Award, Named CCAA PoW

It only took one week for the first 2014-15 HSU women's basketball award. Lumberjack Kersey Wilcox was selected the California Collegiate Athletic Association Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the first weekend of the season (Nov. 14-16).

The senior from Prineville, Ore., earned Sodexo Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament honors held at Seattle Pacific in Seattle, Wash. after leading the Lumberjacks to a split weekend, which included an upset over No. 21 Western Washington.

In Friday's victory, 98-88, over the Vikings, Wilcox posted a double-double of 18 points on 6-of-10 shooting and a career-high 10 assists. She also recorded three rebounds and three steals.

The following night, in a tough 83-74 overtime loss at Seattle Pacific, she added 11 points with three rebounds and three assists.

On the weekend, Wilcox averaged 14.5 points and six rebounds and tallied 13 assists and three steals.

Gleason Season Openers

HSU Head Coach Joddie Gleason improved to 8-3 in season openers guiding the Jacks with the 98-88 upset of No. 21 Western Washington last Friday. The HSU win snapped a two-year season-opening losing skid.

Foster Making Presence Known

In her first week of Division II basketball, newcomer A'Jaee Foster made her presence known as she earned Sodexo Tip-Off Classic All-Tournament selection.

The junior transfer picked up her first double-double and led the Jacks in scoring over the opening weekend. Against Western Washington, Foster was one of five HSU players in double figures with 13 points to go with a team-high 11 rebounds. She also assisted on three other buckets and stole a pair of passes.

The forward had a better second contest. She paced HSU with 18 points on 6-for-12 shooting and 6-of-6 free throws against Seattle Pacific. Foster also grabbed six boards and had one assists.

Foster posted 15.5-point and 8.5-rebound per game averages, both  team-bests, in the two-game totals. She also made 8-of-8 free throw attempts and had 11 defensive rebounds.

Jacks Highest Point Total in Seven Years

HSU started the 2014-15 season in high-scoring fashion. The Jacks produced their highest-point total in seven years.

HSU scored 98 points against No. 21 Western Washington. The point total was second behind coach Gleason's 2007-08 squad, which opened the season with a 105-79 victory against Western Oregon.

The Jacks' 98 points also was one point more than the 97 points scored against Cal State Stanislaus last January 23.
