SAN FRANCISCO – Humboldt State men's soccer earned its first conference point of the season after tying San Francisco State on Sunday afternoon. The Lumberjacks (1-8-1, 0-5-1) played to a scoreless draw at Cox Stadium, a site where the Gators (5-3-2, 1-2-2) have not lost a game this season.
"The defense played well today and earned us a deserved point," said Head Coach
Fred Jungemann. "We are still mired in a goal-scoring slump though, and must find better form in front of goal."
The Jacks did allow a season-high 28 shots, but many were not on frame. Goalkeeper
Christopher Cherms only needed to make five saves to earn his second shutout of the season and lower his goals against average to 1.94, the first time his GAA dipped under 2.00 in his career.
Braxton Griffin recorded four HSU's 12 shots, including two of the four shots on goal. Humboldt totaled eight corner kicks, the second most taken in a game this season.
"We have a break now for our bye week, hopefully we will come back rested and ready to finish the season strong," said Jungemann.
The Jacks will return to College Creek Field for the final homestand of the season. Following a week off, the Green and Gold will host four California Collegiate Athletic Association matches over two weeks, beginning with UC San Diego in Arcata on Oct. 16.
