Volleyball Prepared for Final Playoff Push

ARCATA, Calif. – The season is winding down, but the Jacks still have a lot to play for. Only two weeks remain for California Collegiate Athletic Association teams before the top eight qualify for the inaugural CCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament. Currently ninth in conference, Humboldt State (9-11, 7-9) is fighting to claim one of the final invites into the tournament.

"It's not fun getting to the end of a season without something to play for," said Head Coach Kelly Wood. "You want to get to the postseason. We're fortunate this year to have the conference tournament, and we have that in our sights. We absolutely want to get into the top eight, go down to San Diego, and see what happens, because you never know."

The Lumberjacks (9-11, 7-9) are a half game behind Stanislaus State in the conference standings, setting up what could be a Senior Night for all the marbles on Nov. 14. In order for the match to still have postseason significance, the Jacks need to make the most of their final regular season road trip of the year.

HSU travels down to Southern California this weekend to matchup against Cal State Los Angeles (17-7, 9-6) on Friday and Cal State Dominguez Hills (7-16, 5-10) on Saturday. The Green and Gold swept the pair at Lumberjack Arena just two weeks ago, but realize that playing on the road has been much tougher throughout the year.

"We're going to have to pick up our game this weekend," said Wood. "I know that we went 2-0 against them at our place, but we haven't done very well on our road stretches this season. I'd really like to see us get away this weekend with nothing less than a split. Obviously we'd like to go 2-0, but we really need to just start to play consistently."

The Jacks will close the season at home on Nov. 12 and 14 with games against Chico State (16-9, 8-7) and Stanislaus State (13-8, 7-8), respectively.
