Red Storm Earns 2-1 Walk-Off Victory Over Softball

LAS VEGAS -- Dixie State's Autumn Woodfall smacked a walk-off home run to seal her team's 2-1 victory over Humboldt State softball Sunday afternoon.

HSU wraps the Desert Stinger Tournament with a 2-3 record and is now 3-4 overall.

"It was a tough one today," said Lumberjack Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. "Dixie is a good team and we will see them again. Against a team like Dixie we have to attack from the get go and keep on attacking. We are going to learn from this game as well as the whole week. We are going to come into the conference season strong with our heads held high."

The Jacks jumped out to an early lead against the Red Storm in the first inning. Tiffany Hollingsworth scored on an error by the Dixie State second baseman, after reaching base on a walk and advancing to second on a Julie Pena single.

Dixie State evened the score as Nicole Chavez sliced an RBI single down the left field line in the third inning. Chavez was one of only three Red Storm batters to finish with two hits in the game.

HSU's best chance to retake the lead came in the sixth. Dani Randall reached base on a two-out single through the right side, before a Hannah Williams single pushed her to third. Dixie State starter Michelle Duncan fanned HSU's Breonna Bejaran to escape the inning.

Duncan earned the win for the Red Storm. She allowed five hits and one unearned run. The right hander recorded four punch outs and walked one.

Katie Obbema took the loss for the Green and Gold as she surrendered the walk-off bomb from Woodfall, the first and only batter she faced in the seventh. Obbema yielded seven hits and two unearned runs.

HSU travels to face California Collegiate Athletic Association foe San Francisco State Friday, Feb. 20. First pitch for game one of the doubleheader is scheduled for noon.
