SAN FRANCISCO – Humboldt State softball opened its California Collegiate Athletic Association schedule with a pair of wins over San Francisco State Friday. The Lumberjacks won game one 4-0 and picked up a 6-1 come-from-behind victory in game two.
Breonna Bejaran and
Hanna Holland combined for eight of the Green and Gold's 22 hits in the twinbill. Starting pitchers
Katie Obbema and
Madison Williams did not yield an earned run in 14 innings of action, and both picked up wins.
The series continues Saturday, and first pitch for game three is scheduled for 11 a.m.
GAME ONEHSU capitalized on a pair of San Francisco State miscues, and
Tiffany Hollingsworth swatted a two-run home run in the sixth inning, to capture a 4-0 win in game one.
Obbema shutout the Gators, and never allowed more than one hit per inning, en route to her third decision of the season. She went the distance in the opener and surrendered six hits.
Hannah Holland gave the Green and Gold a 1-0 advantage in the first inning. She reached base on a single, swiped second, stole third and came home on a throwing error. She finished the game with a pair of stolen bases.
The Jacks added to their lead in the second as Gator starter Megan Clark struck Holland with a pitch with the bases loaded.
Hollingsworth's homer helped HSU pull away in the sixth. The San Leandro, Calif., native launched her second home run of the season on a 1-0 pitch from Clark. Her long ball brought home
Darian Harris, who reached base on a single down the left field line.
Holland, Hollingsworth and Bejaran each tallied two hits in the win. HSU finished with 11 total.
GAME TWOThe Jacks rallied to capture the game two win with a six-run seventh inning, highlighted by a Bejaran grand slam.
Madison Williams was dealing in her game two start and zipped through the first three scoreless innings. She allowed an unearned run in the fourth frame, which gave the Gators a lead they held until the seventh inning.
Holland opened the seventh inning with a double and came home on a
Julie Pena bunt single three batters later. HSU took the lead with a RBI single courtesy of
Hannah Williams, before Bejaran sealed the victory with a grand slam.
Madison Williams tossed a complete game, fanned four and allowed six hits. She earned the decision, her second win of the season.
Four HSU players notched multi-hit games, led by
Hannah Williams with three base knocks. Holland, Pena and Bejaran had two hits apiece.
