CARSON, Calif. – With seven seconds left in the game, Humboldt State's
A'Jaee Foster grabbed the missed foul shot rebound and rushed the length of the court. She did not get a shot up as Cal State Dominguez Hills held on for 59-58 Saturday night women's basketball victory.
Lumberjack
Jae Shin downed a 3-pointer for her team's largest lead, 48-41, with 6:23 left on the clock. The Toros answered with 12-straight points to pull ahead, 53-48, with 3:20 left. Another Shin trey pulled HSU to within one, 59-58, with 14 seconds remaining, but the visitors were unable to retake the lead at the buzzer.
"(Cal State) Dominguez Hills started to press and made it a tough play in an environment like that. They are a really good team, but this doesn't make or break the season," said HSU Head Coach
Joddie Gleason. "We have to handle the press better when the double team is coming and make them pay for pressing us."
With the loss, HSU (18-3) falls into a tie with Cal State Dominguez Hills (19-5) at 14-2 atop the California Collegiate Athletic Association standings. Cal Poly Pomona is one game back at 13-3 with all 12 conference members having six more regular season games left to play.
Megan Shields paced the Jacks' effort with eight points in each half for a team-high 16 points. The 6-1 center pulled down eight rebounds, handed out two assists and blocked a shot.

Neika Puryear added 11 points, while
Kersey Wilcox finished with eight points, four rebounds and four assists.

After 22 points Friday night, Foster was held to three points, but pulled down 12 rebounds.
HSU won the rebounding battle, 48-37, but committed seven more turnovers compared, 18-11, to Cal State Dominguez Hills.
The Toros' Breanne Garcia dropped a game-best 17 points and six rebounds, while Monay Lee added 12 points and seven boards.
HSU returns home next week when it hosts Cal State Stanislaus Thursday night, Feb. 12, and rival Chico State Saturday, Feb. 14. Both games start at 5:30 p.m. PT.
