Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Second-half Goals Determine Outcome for HSU Women's Soccer

SEATTLE – A pair of second-half goals put a damper on the strong first-half performance of the Humboldt State women's soccer (0-1-0) team. The Jacks fell to Seattle Pacific (1-0-0) on Thursday afternoon by a score of 2-0.

Graduate transfer and senior goalkeeper Caitlyn Plese earned the start for Head Coach Paul Karver's program. In her first game as a member of the Green and Gold, Plese recorded eight saves and saw 22 shots come her way.

"Tonight was a good test for us against a very good team," said Karver. "A number of players played very well but in the end we gave up two soft goals, and you just can't do that. The stats will tell one story, but those that watched the game saw that there was a great deal of quality in our play."

Seattle Pacific opened the scoring in the 55th minute of play with a deflected shot from about 12 yards out by Laura Moore. The second goal was recorded in the 64th minute, with Moore earning the assist, on a shot within the six-yard box by Hannah Huesers.

In addition to Plese, five field players recorded a full 90 minutes of play. Freshman Bridget Daley led the team with two of HSU's seven recorded shots and logged 87 minutes in her first match.

Daley was one of five freshmen to earn the start, along with one sophomore, one junior, and four seniors.

"We started a great deal of youth, and this experience will pay dividends down the road," said Karver. "Saturday will be another good test, and we need to recover quickly from today."

The Lumberjacks will continue north on this road trip and play at Simon Fraser on Saturday in British Columbia. The match is scheduled for a 5:00 p.m. start.
