SAN FRANCISCO – The Humboldt State men's soccer team (0-2-0) ended a tough weekend with a 3-0 loss to Missouri-St. Louis (1-1-0) Sunday afternoon.
"The bottom line is this game and weekend was not good enough," said Head Coach
Fred Jungemann. "We will need to sort things out quickly to turn it around. We will recover though and work harder than ever to ensure this weekend doesn't define our season."
All three Triton goals were scored over a 10-minute window in the first half between the 23:33 and 32:13 marks.
Tyler Collico put the first Missouri-St. Louis goal in from 18 yards away, off the assist from Nick Werner. Jon Huelsman then scored back-to-back goals for UMSL in under 30 seconds. The first was a penalty kick and the second was from 10 yards out.
Despite the score line, the Lumberjacks outshot UMSL 14-5 in the match.
Braxton Griffin,
Sam Wahl, and
Trice Smith led the way with two shots apiece.
Christopher Cherms made two saves in his second start of the season.
Following the two neutral site games to open the season, the Green and Gold will play four consecutive true road matches. The Jacks will play a midweek nonconference match against Holy Names on Sept. 10 at 1:30.
