ARCATA, Calif. – Following a tight first half, the Humboldt State women's basketball team could not keep with UC San Diego after intermission. The Lumberjacks (8-11, 5-7) lost to the Tritons (16-4, 11-2) on Thursday night, 76-51.
After trailing by double-figures, 21-11, through a quarter, the Jacks chipped away in the second period by opening on a 19-2 run. Despite reducing the deficit to just three at 25-22, the Green and Gold could not tie the one-possession game before halftime and went into the locker room down seven, 36-29. HSU's bench outscored San Diego's bench 11-3 in the second quarter, and 24-11 in the game.
The Tritons capitalized on 51.9 percent shooting, the best against a Lumberjack opponent this season, and extended the lead in the second half to as high as 28. Jamie Katuna had a game-high 28 points on 10-of-15 shooting for the visitors.
The Jacks had both
A'Jaee Foster and
Amanda Kunst finishing with double-digit points after scoring 15 and 12, respectively. Humboldt State was unable to make any sort of comeback after shooting just 3-for-16 from long range.
HSU welcomes Cal State San Bernardino to the North Coast on Saturday night. The game will tip at 5:30 p.m. at Lumberjack Arena.
