Volleyball Returns To The North Coast For Weekend Homestand

ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State volleyball team returns home this weekend for a short homestand against California Collegiate Athletic Association rivals Sonoma State (Friday, Oct. 14) and San Francisco State (Saturday, Oct. 15). Both matches will start at 7 p.m.

HSU enters the weekend on a three-match losing streak, having dropped decisions to Chico State, Stanislaus State and Cal State Monterrey Bay. Even with the recent results, the Lumberjacks an 8-7 overall record and have recorded a 3-4 mark in CCAA play.

"I thought we fought hard and played really well against Chico last Friday," said head coach Kelly Wood. "Against Monterey we went five and had chances to win that fourth set, and we didn't execute. I was also impressed with our attitude after the road trip. The girls did their best to remain positive, and they are not giving up on each other or themselves."

Sonoma State enters the weekend with a 6-9 overall record and a 4-4 mark in CCAA competition. In their last match, the Seawolves dropped a 3-1 decision to Chico State on Tuesday night.

"In order to beat Sonoma we need to have a good start to the sets," said Wood. "We also need to be more consistent and finish our sets off better. In the clutch moments we need to be able to execute at a higher level."

San Francisco State travels to the North Coast with a 1-15 record overall and have gone 0-8 in CCAA action. In their last match, the Gators fell 3-0 against Stanislaus State on Tuesday.
