Game Recap: Men's Soccer | | John Lange

Men’s Soccer Shut out By Seawolves 3-0

ROHNERT PARK, Calif. – A pair of first half goals proved to be more than enough for Sonoma State as the Seawolves defeated Humboldt State men's soccer 3-0 Wednesday afternoon.

Sonoma State outshot Humboldt State 23-2 in the match, including a 17-1 advantage in the opening half.

Sonoma State opened the scoring in the 36th minute when Alex Cucuk pounced on a rebound and found the back of the net. Just seven minutes later the Seawolves doubled their lead when Eric Alvarado converted a penalty kick after a handball was called against the Lumberjacks.

In the 55th minute, the Seawolves extended their lead to 3-0 when Raad Aljabi picked up a loose ball and scored from 10 yards out.

Humberto Alvarez and Mumbi Kwesele, who each recorded one shot in the match, led the Green and Gold offensive effort. Goalkeeper Christopher Cherms led the Jacks with five saves.

"Today was not a good performance from us," said head coach Fred Jungemann. "Sonoma came out and put us under pressure from the beginning, and we didn't deal with it well. We made some big mistakes early in the game and never recovered our confidence enough to challenge for the result."

HSU wraps up its road schedule when it challenges Chico State on Sunday, Oct. 23.
