HAYWARD, Calif. – Humboldt State volleyball held a two sets to one lead, but Cal State East Bay fought its way back to claim a 3-2 (25-23, 20-25, 24-26, 25-16, 15-12) victory in California Collegiate Athletic Association play on Wednesday night.
The loss drops the Lumberjacks to 9-9 overall and 4-6 in the CCAA.
Symone Hayden led the Jacks with 17 kills and 22 digs. The Green and Gold compiled a .175 hitting percentage in the loss.
Nicole Bewley recorded 15 kills for HSU in the match.
Jessica Lammers notched a team-high 32 assists, one less than her season best.
The Pioneers (10-9, 6-5 CCAA) picked up 10 total blocks. Kathy McKiernan recorded four blocks, while teammate Deja Thompson tallied three.
"Tonight was another very tough loss for us," said head coach
Kelly Wood. "We had moments of great volleyball, but we faltered in the fifth set. We had way too many unforced errors in the final set. We have no time to hang our heads. We leave in the morning for San Diego and we have two more tough opponents this weekend."
The road trip continues as HSU travels south to face UC San Diego Friday at 7 p.m.
