LA JOLLA, Calif. – Humboldt State volleyball was able to rally from a set down on two occasions before eventually defeating UC San Diego in five sets (22-25, 25-20, 23-25, 25-17, 15-13) Friday evening.
With the win, the Lumberjacks improve to 10-9 overall and 5-6 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association.
On the offensive side of the net,
Symone Hayden led the Jacks with 18 kills, and
Nicole Bewley (14) and
Alex Lolland (11) also had double-digit kills. In the passing department,
Jessica Lammers recorded 29 assists while
Katherine Rifilato chipped in with 21.
Defensively,
Sarah Shively led the Jacks with 18 digs while Hayden recorded 15 and Nichole Bianchi picked up 14.
The Tritons (11-9, 8-4 CCAA) were led by Meagan Wright, who recorded 19 kills and Kayla Evans, who had 40 assists on the evening.
"After a heartbreaking third set loss, our team showed incredible resilience to come back and win in five," said head coach
Kelly Wood. "We had tough serving in the fourth to give us a big win and the momentum shifted our way from that point on. I'm very proud of the girls tonight, as every win is huge at this point in our season."
The Green and Gold will wrap up the road trip with a Saturday match at Cal State San Marcos beginning at 1 p.m.
