ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State men's soccer cut a Cal State Los Angeles lead in half with a late goal, but lost 2-1 at College Creek Field.
With the loss, HSU falls to 4-10-1 on the season and 2-9-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while Cal State Los Angeles improves to 9-4-3 overall and 7-2-1 in conference.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Lumberjacks 15-5, including an 11-1 deficit in the first half.
Cal State Los Angeles opened up the scoring in the 36th minute when Shahin Hemat collected a pass from Hakon Laugsand and blasted a one timer from the top of the box into the left corner of the goal. Just seven minutes later, the Golden Eagles scored again when Rigoberto Maciel put away a goal with the assist again going to Laugsand.
In the 85th minute, the Jacks closed the gap to one when
Isaiah Dairo scored on a header off a corner kick from
Trice Smith.
Chris Cherms finished with six saves in goal for the Jacks.
