Men's Soccer Defeated by Golden Eagles

ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State men's soccer cut a Cal State Los Angeles lead in half with a late goal, but lost 2-1 at College Creek Field.
 
With the loss, HSU falls to 4-10-1 on the season and 2-9-0 in the California Collegiate Athletic Association while Cal State Los Angeles improves to 9-4-3 overall and 7-2-1 in conference.
 
The Golden Eagles outshot the Lumberjacks 15-5, including an 11-1 deficit in the first half.
 
Cal State Los Angeles opened up the scoring in the 36th minute when Shahin Hemat collected a pass from Hakon Laugsand and blasted a one timer from the top of the box into the left corner of the goal. Just seven minutes later, the Golden Eagles scored again when Rigoberto Maciel put away a goal with the assist again going to Laugsand.
 
In the 85th minute, the Jacks closed the gap to one when Isaiah Dairo scored on a header off a corner kick from Trice Smith.
 
Chris Cherms finished with six saves in goal for the Jacks.
 
The Green and Gold host Cal State Dominguez Hills and celebrate Senior Day Saturday, Oct. 29. The match begins at 2 p.m., and HSU will recognize senior Trice Smith during pregame.
