Men’s Basketball Dials Up Long-Range Attack Versus Simon Fraser

SEATTLE – Humboldt State men's basketball struggled to find its rhythm from 3-point range in its season opener, but that wasn't a problem in Saturday's 87-62 win over Simon Fraser.

The Lumberjacks (1-1) unleashed a 3-point barrage in the final game of the Sodexo Tip-Off Challenge. HSU connected on 46.9 percent of its long-range attempts, and the Green and Gold hit 15 treys.

Jeryn Lucas scored a team-high 16 points in the first half, and HSU led 40-26 at the half. Lucas drained five of his six 3-point field goals before intermission, and he finished the game with a team-leading 19 points in 19 minutes of play.

HSU shot 60 percent from the field and led by as many as 30 points in the second half. Nikhil Lizotte was the Jacks' top scorer in the second half with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting. He finished the game with 15 points.

The Green and Gold bench contributed 41 points, and reserves Tyler Green (10) and Lucas (19) scored in double figures.

Tyras Rattler Jr. led HSU with eight rebounds and was named to the Sodexo Tip-Off Classic all-tournament team.

The Clan (0-2) had a pair of double-digit scoring efforts, and JJ Pankratz led the way with 15 points on 6-of-11 shooting.

A break isn't in the cards for the Jacks as they return home to face Oregon Tech Tuesday, Nov. 15. Tipoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
