ARCATA, Calif. –Humboldt State women's basketball picked up its first victory of the 2016-17 season Tuesday when it defeated Holy Names. A 26-point outburst by Tyra Turner proved to be enough as the Jacks claimed a 71-62 victory over the Hawks.

"Tyra grew up a lot tonight," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "She had tremendous balance tonight, both on offense and defense."

Humboldt State shot 47 percent from the field (27-for-57) and committed a season low 14 turnovers. The Lumberjacks (1-4) also shot 87 percent from the free-throw line (13-for-15) and scored 16 points off turnovers to defeat the Hawks (0-4).
