ARCATA, Calif. – Southern Oregon proved to be too much for Humboldt State women's basketball in Thursday evening's 89-72 exhibition loss in Lumberjack Arena.
Humboldt State scored the first three points of the game, but a 12-1 run by Southern Oregon stole the momentum. The Raiders maintained their advantage, and they led 23-16 at the end of the first period. Sydney Mullings paced Southern Oregon scorers with seven points.
Mullings sank the first basket of the second period and the Raiders extended their lead to 48-33 at the break. Autumn Durand was the difference maker for Southern Oregon in the first half. She scored 16 points in 17 minutes of action and swiped a team-high four steals to go with four rebounds and three assists.
HSU connected on 39.1 percent of its shots in the first half, and
Mikaela Shannon led the Green and Gold in scoring with 11 points. The Jacks committed 11 turnovers and were edged on the boards, 19-15.
Miscues continued to plague HSU in the second half, and Southern Oregon added to its lead. The Jacks committed five more turnovers and, despite closing the gap in the rebounding battle 27-26, trailed 75-48 at the end of the third quarter.
Shots from outside the arc began to fall for the Jacks in the fourth quarter. HSU sank six 3-pointers in the final 10 minutes and outscored Southern Oregon 24-14.

Jovanah Arrington each had a pair of treys in the final period.
Shannon (12) and Arrington (11) led HSU's scoring effort, and
Allison Zalin finished the game with six points, seven assists and 11 rebounds for the Jacks.
HSU outrebounded Southern Oregon 39-29. The Raiders shot 53.2 percent from the field and had four players with 10 or more points. Durand led all scorers with 21 points on 6-of-10 shooting.
The Green and Gold travel to Seattle for the West Region Challenge Nov. 11-12. HSU faces Western Washington on Friday, Nov. 11 at 1 p.m.
