ARCATA, Calif. –Humboldt State women's basketball returns to California Collegiate Athletic Association action when it travels to take on Cal State Los Angeles. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
The Lumberjacks (1-6) picked up a 71-62 victory over Holy Names last Tuesday before dropping 11 point decisions to Academy of Art and Dominican last weekend.
"We were a little up and down," said Head Coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson. "The first day we were disappointed, and certainly didn't play our best basketball. On Sunday, we dug ourselves a hole, but the girls battled and fought back in the second half."
Cal State Los Angeles enters the weekend with a record of 3-3 following an 81-70 loss to No. 2 ranked California Baptist. HSU leads the all-time series against the Golden Eagles 14-10 and claimed a 65-63 victory over Cal State Los Angeles on January 16.
The Golden Eagles are finding success on the glass and are averaging 32 boards per game. Rikke Fabricus and Marina LaPuzza lead the way for Cal State Los Angeles, averaging 5.0 per game. On the scoring end, Fabricus (13.0) and Da'Jah Jackson (11.5) average in double figures.
"The stakes are high for everybody in every conference game," said Bento-Jackson. "We're going to prepare for Cal State Los Angeles, however, the focus is primarily on ourselves. We have to execute much better."
The Jacks remain on the road for a pair of CCAA games next weekend. The Green and Gold will face Chico State on Friday, December 9 before playing Stanislaus State on Saturday, December 10. Tipoff for both games is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
