Volleyball Sweeps San Francisco 3-0

SAN FRANCISCO – Looking to snap a three-match losing streak, Humboldt State volleyball claimed a straight-set victory over San Francisco State (25-22, 25-21, 25-15) in California Collegiate Athletic Association play Friday night.

The win improves the Lumberjacks to 11-12 overall and 6-9 in the CCAA. The Gators fall to 1-23 overall and 0-16.

"Tonight we got a much-needed win, and it felt great to get it done in three," said Head Coach Kelly Wood. "The third set was our most efficient, and I'm proud of the team for getting better as the match went on. Alondra Haro and Symone Hayden had big nights for us tonight."

Hayden led Humboldt with a match-high 15 kills to go with 13 digs. Jessica Lammers dished out 18 assists for the Lumberjacks, while Rachel Tostberg added 14. On the defensive side of the net, libero Sarah Shively recorded 11 digs.

In the opening set, HSU built a 19-13 lead before the Gators could close the gap to a single point. The Lumberjacks closed out the set, 25-22, behind five kills apiece from Alex Lolland and Hayden.

Trailing 13-15 in the second set, the Jacks went on a 7-0 run that gave them a lead they would not relinquish. Once again, San Francisco State closed the lead to one point, but a kill by Haro gave HSU a 25-21 win and a 2-0 lead entering the intermission.

In the final set, an 8-1 run gave HSU a 21-13 lead. On match point, an ace from Lammers gave the Green and Gold their second three-set sweep of the Gators this season.

For the match, Humboldt State recorded 39 kills and hit .198. The defense recorded 54 digs and six blocks.

The Jacks wrap up the road portion of the 2016 regular season on Saturday when they take on Sonoma State.
