ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State men's basketball closed out its exhibition schedule with a 97-62 win over Bristol Monday in Lumberjack Arena.
"We were pleased with tonight's performance regarding our hustle and intensity," said Head Coach
Steve Kinder. "On the offensive end, we liked how we shared the basketball. We gave up good shots for great shots. Our effort was sustained at a high-level, which is difficult to do in a game with a large margin."
The Lumberjacks dominated the first half and owned a 33-point advantage at intermission, 56-23, behind a blistering 71 percent shooting.
Nikhil Lizotte led HSU scorers with 12 points in the first 20 minutes, and he connected on 3-of-5 opportunities from outside the arc.
Kinder went to the bench early and often. Twelve Green and Gold players logged first half minutes. HSU's reserves contributed 26 of the team's 56 points.
HSU never trailed in the second half, but its shooting numbers cooled off. The Jacks shot 45.5 percent from the field and 36.8 percent from long distance.
Every active member of the team made an appearance in the game, and the Jacks led by a game-high 44 points with four minutes left to play.
Tyras Rattler Jr. scored 20 points in the win, and he hit 5-of-10 field goal attempts. Rattler sunk a team-high four 3-pointers, dished out three assists and grabbed a pair of rebounds.
Lizotte (14) and
Jeryn Lucas (12) followed Rattlers' lead with double-digit scoring performances of their own.
Kellen Gerig and
Will Taylor were the Jacks rebounding leaders with seven apiece.
HSU travels to Seattle this weekend for the Sodexo Tipoff Classic. The North Coast squad faces host Seattle Pacific Friday, Nov. 11 at 7 p.m. and Simon Fraser Saturday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m.
"Now it's time to take a show on the road and play in one of the most difficult venues in the West Region, Seattle Pacific on Friday night," said Kinder.
