ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State women's basketball returns to California Collegiate Athletic Association play this weekend when it hosts Cal State East Bay Friday, Dec. 30 and Cal State Monterey Bay Saturday, Dec. 31. Both games tip off at 5:30 p.m.
Friday's game will be Girl Scout Night, and all Girl Scouts that wear their uniform to the game will receive free admission.
The Lumberjacks have dropped back-to-back games, including a non-conference home game against Western Oregon before the break.
Catharine Rees turned in a season-high 20 points and connected on six 3-pointers in the loss.
Cal State East Bay rides a three-game losing streak into Friday's matchup. Shomari Harris leads the Pioneers and CCAA with 17.8 points per game. Harris scored 24 points in the team's last outing, a 78-67 loss against Cal State Los Angeles.
SERIES BREAKDOWN
The Pioneers have a 35-29 advantage in the all-time series. HSU lost both meetings last season, including a 67-51 loss in CCAA Tournament first round action.
COACH'S CORNER
On Cal State East Bay
"They are obviously a well-balanced team, and it all starts with Shomari Harris at the point," said Head Coach
Michelle Bento-Jackson. "She is a very solid player and she makes everything go for them."
On preparation for the second half of the season
"I watched a lot of film over the break, not necessarily of our opponents, but on ourselves," said Bento-Jackson. "We have made some adjustments this week in practice. I hope they will help us be a little more efficient with our defense."
On what the Jacks need to do to find success this weekend
"We are going to have to take care of the ball on the offensive end," said Bento-Jackson. "On the defensive end we have had too many defensive breakdowns. We have to execute our defensive scout on our opponents. We have had too much slippage transferring what we do in practice to what we do against our opponents."
UP NEXT
Cal State Monterey Bay visits Lumberjack Arena Saturday, Dec. 31. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and all Boy Scouts that wear their uniforms to the game will receive free admission.
