ARCATA, Calif. – No. 3-ranked Humboldt State softball demonstrated speed, power and lights-out pitching as it swept Sonoma State in Monday's home doubleheader. The Lumberjacks defeated the Seawolves 9-2 in game one and 8-0 in game two.
"Sonoma is a tough squad, and for us to come out and hit the ball like we did today shows me we are well into our groove," said Head Coach
Shelli Sarchett. "I am really proud of both my pitchers today. Katie (Obbema) gave up some hits, but didn't let the Seawolves take advantage of the opportunities, and Maddie (Williams) kept their opportunities to a minimum."
The wins clinched the Green and Gold a spot in the California Collegiate Athletic Association Tournament held in Turlock, Calif., on April 29 – May 1. The Jacks improved their overall record to 37-3-1 and 26-2 in conference play.
Another milestone was reached Monday, as
Hanna Holland became the Jacks' single-season stolen base record holder. Jamie Peterson previously held the record of 53 stolen bases since the 1997 season.
"What can I saw about Hanna?" said Sarchett. "She just makes things happen, and I am really proud of her accomplishments so far. I know she isn't done."
