SAN RAFAEL, Calif. – Sunday was an off day for several Lumberjack starters, but the reserves took advantage of their opportunity as No. 3-ranked Humboldt State softball won a pair of non-conference games versus Dominican.
The Green and Gold improved to 45-3-1 overall and have won 20 straight games. HSU has not won 20 consecutive games since winning 29 in a row during the 2006 season.
The Jacks conclude the regular season with a four-game homestand with Cal State East Bay. The series begins Friday, April 22, at 1 p.m.
GAME ONE
(Humboldt State 7, Dominican 1)
A
Breonna Bejaran bases-loaded single in the first inning and a
Hanna Holland RBI triple in the second gave HSU a 2-1 advantage.
After an error allowed an HSU runner to score in the fourth, the Green and Gold added more distance in the following inning.
Sydney Roberts,
Illa Haley and
Winona Vigil each drove in runs to increase the Jacks' lead to 6-1.
Vigil added to her strong day at the plate with a run-scoring double down the left field line in the seventh. She joined Holland and Bejaran as the only Jacks with mutli-hit performances in game one.
Kalyn Paque made her third start of the season Sunday and limited the Penguins to one run in seven innings. She struck out a season-high nine batters and picked up her third victory.
GAME TWO
(Humboldt State 5, Dominican 0)
The highlight of the series finale was
Robin Johnson's performance in the circle. The sophomore made her first start of the season and baffled Dominican's batters. She tossed a three-hitter, struck out three, walked three and earned her first career decision.
Darian Harris drove in the game's first run in the third after back-to-back walks to open the frame.
HSU scored all but one of its runs in the fourth inning.
Lindsey Zito came home on one of the inning's three errors, Haley stole home and
Tiffany Hollingsworth hit a two-run single with the bases loaded.
Bejaran and Haley finished the game with two hits apiece.
