ARCATA, Calif. – Humboldt State men's soccer lost to Cal Poly Pomona 1-0 Sunday at College Creek Field.
The Lumberjacks moved to 2-3-1 overall and 0-2 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. Cal Poly Pomona improved to 5-2-1 overall and 1-1 against conference opposition.
"Pomona is a strong team and played very well today," said HSU head coach
Fred Jungemann. "Our guys battled hard and executed our game plan well. While the result may be frustrating, we continue to show improvement every game. All we can do now is take the confidence from the things we did well and work hard to improve on our mistakes."
Sergi Monso scored the game's only goal 19:17 into the match. Monso was fouled in front of the penalty box arc, and he booted the game winner from 23 yards out on the ensuing free kick.
Pomona limited the Green and Gold offense to five total shots. The Broncos finished with 13 shots and 10 shots on goal.
Goalkeeper Chris Cherms compiled nine saves in 90 minutes of action for the Jacks.
