ARCATA, Calif. –
The Humboldt State women's soccer team is looking to build on a road trip in which they managed a Friday 1-0 road victory over a strong Cal State Pomona squad before running out of gas against Cal State San Bernardino on Sunday with a 5-0 final. This weekend, the Jacks host UC San Diego at 12:30 p.m. Friday before taking on Cal State San Marcos on Sunday with an 11:30 a.m. start time.

The Green and Gold have a 6-5-1 overall record and a 2-4-1 mark in the CCAA, while the Tritons, Friday's opponent, stand at 11-2, 8-0 in the CCAA.

"We knew going into the weekend that any points were going to be very, very important," said Head Coach Paul Karver, "So the ability to get three on the first day against the No. 25 team in the country was big time."

Karver thought his team made the game "about as ugly as you could possibly imagine," but said his squad employed a pressing, aggressive defense after the early goal to great effectiveness. Against San Bernardino, he estimated that the girls had about 20-25 minutes of energy left in the tank, and simply ran out as the home team came up with four second-half tallies.

"It's a good opportunity to be home," Karver said of this coming weekend, "It'll be two weeks with four games, 12 points on the table. We need probably three wins or four to get into the playoffs; the challenge is that we play very good teams. Everyone is in front of us with the exception of Dominguez who's now doing very well, winning games again. They're going to catch fire and be tough next weekend. This weekend, obviously the focus is on San Diego on Friday and San Marcos on Sunday, two very good teams with two different playing styles."

Karver was especially complimentary of the Tritons, a top-10 team nationally, but says the Jacks always seem to play them well, drawing them a couple years ago and consistently being in games competitively.
