Volleyball Loses to Stanislaus State 3-1

ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State volleyball team lost its fourth consecutive match Friday, 3-1, versus Stanislaus State.

The Lumberjacks' record slipped to 3-14 overall and 2-9 in conference play. Stanislaus State picked up just its second win of the season and improved to 2-18 and 2-10 against California Collegiate Athletic Association competition.

After dropping a match to Chico State in straight sets Thursday evening, Stanislaus State was ready to play Friday night. The Warriors compiled a .312 hitting percentage and won the opening frame 25-17.

HSU jumped out to a 4-0 lead, but even a 6-1 advantage wasn't safe from the Warriors. Stanislaus State used a five-point run to capture a 12-10 edge, and the visitors scored eight of the set's last nine points en route to a 25-20 victory.

A strong performance by the HSU offense scored the home team a 25-15 win in the third set. Alex Lolland supplied five of the team's 14 kills in the frame. She finished the match with a team-best 12 kills.

Stanislaus State hit -.021 in the third set, but rebounded with a successful offensive effort in the deciding fourth. The Warriors got off to a slow start and a 5-0 swing put them back in the lead. Rachel Klopfer sparked Stanislaus' 25-15 win in the fourth set with seven of her team-high 17 kills.

HSU hosts Chico State Saturday in Lumberjack Arena. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
