Volleyball Loses to Cougars in Straight Sets

ARCATA, Calif. – It was another difficult night for the Humboldt State volleyball team as the Lumberjacks lost to Cal State San Marcos 3-0 (22-25, 18-25, 16-25).

The home team took a 5-1 lead in the first set and got off to a competitive start. San Marcos used a 5-0 run midway through the frame to even the score and take a 13-9 lead, and the Cougars never gave up the momentum en route to a 25-22 win. HSU finished the set with a .167 hitting percentage; its highest total of the match.

Set two was all Cougars. HSU struggled to find any offensive rhythm in the set and attack errors and San Marcos runs spelled doom for the Green and Gold. The Cougars clicked on the offensive end and they dominated the frame with a .342 hitting percentage.

San Marcos led for most of the third frame. HSU tied things up at 7-7, before the Cougars scored five straight points to take control and run away with the final set, 25-16.

Alex Lolland led the Jacks with nine kills, Jessica Lammers finished with a team-high 13 assists, and Sarah Shively recorded 15 digs.

HSU hosts Cal State Monterey Bay Tuesday night in Lumberjack Arena. The match is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m.
