Women’s Basketball Endures Tough Night Shooting, Falls to Concordia

PORTLAND, Ore. – Undone by 29 percent shooting from the floor in the first leg of an Oregon road swing, the Humboldt State women's basketball team dropped a 70-58 decision to Concordia University Monday night.

HSU forced 20 Concordia turnovers and converted them into 14 points, but was unable to come up with the victory.

"I'm very disappointed in our team tonight," said Head Coach Michelle Bento-Jackson. "We didn't do what we need to do on either end of the floor to put us in a position to win the game. We had numerous mental errors, and I have no tolerance for mental mistakes. We have a lot of work to do and it is my job as the leader of the Humboldt State women's basketball team to spend as many hours as there are in a day to rectify the problems that we continue to have."

Tyla Turner led the Lumberjacks (1-4) with 19 points and came up with eight rebounds, six on the offensive end. Kindall Murie contributed 15 on an uncharacteristically cool night from three-point range, where she went 1-for-7, but she finished tied with a team-high eight boards.

HSU jumped out to a 19-14 lead after one quarter, but saw Concordia come back strong to take a 35-25 advantage into the break. The Jacks closed to within three, 39-36, with 3:08 left in the third, but Concordia's lead grew to 10 again by the end of the period, and they maintained a healthy advantage throughout the fourth.

The Lumberjacks travel to Monmouth, Ore., for a meeting with Western Oregon Tuesday at 6 p.m.
