Volleyball Loses to Gators in Four Sets

SAN FRANCISCO – The Humboldt State volleyball program continued its stretch of four games in four days with a 3-1 (13-25, 25-23, 24-26, 23-25) loss to San Francisco State Sunday afternoon.

The Gators jumped out to a 6-1 advantage in the opening set and extended their lead to 12-3 following a Lauren Reid attack error. HSU pulled within four points before SF State went on an 8-0 run to take the set by a score of 25-13.

HSU's offense improved dramatically in the second set after hitting just .029 to start the match. A Savannah Horton kill and a Gators attack error gave the Jacks a 2-0 edge, but a 5-0 run put SF State back in front. Alex Lolland compiled five of her team-high 16 kills to lead a comeback, and the Jacks won the set 25-23.

The third set saw the North Coast squad take an 8-3 lead, but the Gators rallied to even the score. The frame featured 10 ties, and SF State finished the 26-24 win with four consecutive points.

The Gators used an 8-0 run to take a commanding 10-3 lead to start the fourth set. The Jacks fought their way back and tied the score at 14-14. HSU scored five of the next seven points to take a 19-16 advantage before the home team's offense broke out of its slump. The Gators won the set 25-23.

HSU ends the road trip with a stop in Rohnert Park Monday. The match versus Sonoma State is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
