Jacks Roll Past Hawks in Non-Conference Meeting

ARCATA, Calif. – Calvin Young II recorded his fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 21 points and 10 rebounds as Humboldt State men's basketball defeated Holy Names, 84-67, Monday night in Lumberjack Arena.

The Green and Gold used a 9-0 run midway through the first half to capture the momentum, and they rolled to a 16-point halftime lead. HSU shot 54.8 percent from the field, and Young led the Jacks with 10 points before intermission.

HSU scored the first nine points out of locker room and dominated the final 20 minutes of action. The home team extended its lead to a game-high 34 points, 76-42, with a Jeryn Lucas 3-pointer with 8:16 left to play.

Eleven Jacks logged time in the non-conference game and all 11 scored. Tyras Rattler Jr. (13), Nikhil Lizotte (11) and Malik Morgan (10) joined Young in double figures.

Young's scoring total was three points shy of his season-high. He was 10-of-12 shooting and 1-of-2 at the free-throw line. For the ninth time this season, the Fresno, Calif., native recorded three or more blocks, and he finished with three of HSU's four.

The Jacks outrebounded the Hawks 43-32, and HSU scored 48 points in the paint.

"We just thought that it was time to execute well and get the ball inside," said Head Coach Steve Kinder. "When you establish the inside presence and you get some inside looks, they have to cover down on that, and it opens up the outside."

HSU hosts Cal Poly Pomona Saturday at 7:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness, and a team autograph session will be held postgame for fans.
