MCKINLEYVILLE, Calif.- Humboldt State softball extended its winning streak to nine games Sunday, as they completed a two-game sweep of Dominican University. The Lumberjacks improved to 20-1 overall on the season and remain 11-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
"This was a long weekend for us and I give credit to our ladies for hanging in tough throughout the whole weekend," said Head Coach Shelli Sarchett.
Senior
Madison Williams was able to keep Dominican off balance all game. She recorded a season high 12 strikeouts, going the distance for the ninth time in the 2017 season. With the win, she improves to 11-1 on the season with an ERA of 1.03.
Williams held Dominican at bay until the Jacks bats woke up. In the bottom of fourth inning
Winona Vigil singled to left field scoring
Kathy Orozco. HSU struck again in the bottom of the fifth when
Sydney Roberts singled up the middle scoring
Kelly Sonnemann and
Lauren Lipe, and giving the Jacks a 3-0 lead.
Dominican's only run came on a throwing error in the sixth inning after a runner advanced to third on a foul out to right field. HSU went on to take game one 3-1.

In game two Dominican got on the board first when McKenzie Schumacher scored from third on a throw trying to catch a runner stealing at second base. This was the only run scored by Dominican as
Kalyn Paque picked up where
Madison Williams left off striking out six batters on her way to her fourth complete game of the season.
"Kudos to both
Madison Williams and
Kalyn Paque today. They kept us in the ballgame long enough for our hitters to put some runs on the board. Hits or runs didn't come easily for us today, but when we needed our offense most, they came through," Said Sarchett.
HSU for the second straight game started its attack in the bottom of the fourth, when a sacrifice fly by
Kalyn Paque tied the game 1-1. In the bottom of the fifth a double down the left field line by
Tiffany Hollingsworth scored
Kelly Sonnemann and
Winona Vigil putting the Jacks up 3-1. Hollingsworth ended the game 3-3 from the plate as the Jacks took game to 3-1.
The Lumberjacks are back in action March 17-18 as they travel south for a four-game series against Cal State San Bernardino.
