SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.- Humboldt State dropped both games in Saturday's doubleheader against Cal State Bernardino. The Coyotes took game one 9-1 and game two 8-5. This is the first time the Lumberjacks have dropped both games in a doubleheader since 2015.

With the losses No.1 HSU falls to 20-3 overall and 13-3 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.Â

A defensive miscue in game one put the Lumberjacks in tough spot on Saturday allowing San Bernardino to have big inning and put the game away. The Coyotes took advantage of a two out error and went on to put up 5 unearned runs giving them a 6-0 lead. "I have to give San Bernardino credit, they came out swinging the bats and put pressure on us from the start," said Head Coach
Shelli Sarchett. "We didn't help our cause at all with a lot of mental mistakes and missed opportunities."

Game two saw the Green and Gold Strike first as a first inning Solo Home Run to centerfield by

The Coyotes answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the second inning making the score 3-2 in the Lumberjacks favor. San Bernardino exploded for seven hits and six runs in the bottom of the third putting them up 8-3.

HSU added two more runs, one in the top of the fifth when
Breonna Bejaran scored on a wild pitch, and another in the top of the sixth when
Sydney Roberts grounded out to second scoring
Winona Vigil. The loss is
Kalyn Paque's first of the season and she now sits at 10-1.

"We hate to lose but today doesn't define us as a team. We need to learn from this and move onto tomorrow," said Sachett.

HSU is back in action tomorrow when they wrap up the series with Cal State San Bernardino with another doubleheader scheduled to kick off at 11 a.m.
