Two Bejaran Home Runs Earns HSU a Split Against the Coyotes

SAN BERNARDINO, Calif.- Humboldt State Softball earned a split in day two of doubleheaders against Cal State San Bernardino. The Coyotes took game one 3-1, before HSU bounced back in game two with a 6-3 victory.
 
With the win in game two, the Lumberjacks improve to 21-4 overall and 14-4 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
 
In game one HSU got on the board first when Illa Haley scored as the Coyotes made a play catching Lona Dengler at second base. This would be the only run the Lumberjacks put up as they struggled at the plate in game one only putting together six hits.
 
San Bernardino went on to score three unanswered taking game one with a final score of 3-1.
 
Game two saw the bats come alive for the Green and Gold as they put up six runs on ten hits.
 
Breonna Bejaran got the Jacks started with a solo home run in the top of the fourth, giving HSU a 1-0 lead. The Coyotes would answer with a solo home run of their own in the bottom of the fourth leaving the game tied up 1-1.
 
HSU trailed 2-1 heading into the top of the sixth inning before Orozco scored on a sacrifice bunt by Kalyn Paque. The Jacks kept the momentum rolling in the top of the seventh when Winona Vigil scored on a Sydney Roberts single up the middle. Breonna Bejaran provided an exclamation mark with her second home run of the content, this time a two-run home run putting the Jakcs up 6-2.
 
The Coyotes added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but HSU went on the take the final game of the series 6-3. Still the Coyotes were able to take three of four from the No.1 Lumberjacks.
 
"This weekend was definitely a wake up call for our ladies," said Head Coach Shelli Sarchett. "We haven't been playing our best ball and against a good team it showed. Again, I have to give credit to San Bernardino, they played us tough and didn't let us get away with anything."
 
HSU has a bye week as make up games against Chico State have been postponed again due to rain.
