TURLOCK, Calif. – Humboldt State softball lost its first game of the season, but earned a series win over Stanislaus State Saturday. The Lumberjacks dropped the first game of the afternoon 6-2, but edged the Warriors 4-3 in the series finale.
Saturday's results move the Green and Gold to 12-1 overall and 7-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association action.
HSU scored a run in the first, but Stanislaus State scored three runs in the bottom half of the inning with the help of a two-run Ruby Quiralte homer. Quiralte finished with two hits and four RBI.
The Warriors tagged ace
Madison Williams with three more runs in the sixth en route to her first loss. Williams yielded six runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings.
Kelly Sonnemann and
Lona Dengler each had two hits in the series' third game.
A fifth inning two-run home run courtesy of
Breonna Bejaran highlighted HSU's 4-3 victory.
Sydney Roberts and
Amber Orchard added RBI singles for the Jacks.
Kalyn Paque recorded a career-high 10 strikeouts and improved her record to 6-0 in the series finale. She tossed a complete game and allowed two earned runs on six hits.
HSU visits Hayward, Calif., for a rescheduled doubleheader with Cal State East Bay Monday. First pitch is set for 11 a.m.
