Dengler named All Tourney, Jacks Finish Tournament of Champions 5-1

TURLOCK, Calif. – Humboldt State Softball picked up two more wins on the final day of the Tournament of Champions Sunday, defeating Chaminade 9-2 in game one and Notre Dame De Namur 6-2 in game two.
 
HSU finished the Tournament of Champions 5-1 and improved to 26-5 overall on the season. 
 
The Lumberjacks wasted no time getting on the board as they put up two runs in the top of the first. Sydney Roberts scored when Breonna Bejaran reached on a fielder's choice, then Berjaran scored on a triple by Illa Haley giving the Jacks an early 2-0 lead. Chaminade answered quickly with two run of their own in the bottom of the first leaving the game tied 2-2.
 
HSU added two more in the top of the 4th when Amber Orchard brought in a run on a sac bunt, then scored herself on a throwing error. The Green and Gold kept the offense coming with a five-run inning in the top of the 6th inning highlighted by back to back rbi doubles by Winona Vigil and Kelly Sonnemann, then an rbi triple by Tiffany Hollingsworth. The Jack lead 9-2 after the top of the 6th as they cruised to their fourth victory of the tournament. Jasmine Hill went the distance for the Jacks picking up her second win of the season.
 
The Jacks bats stayed hot in game two as they put up six runs against Notre Dame de Namur. Lona Dengler received All Tournament honors for her contributions in the tournament. She went 2-3 with a run in the Jacks game one victory against Chaminade.
 
The Green and Gold are back on the road next weekend as they travel south for a four-game series against UC San Diego April 7-8.
