LA JOLLA, Calif.- No 1. Humboldt State Softball split it's day one double header against UC San Diego Friday afternoon. HSU dropped game one 4-2 and took game two 3-2 against the Tritons.

With the game two victory the Lumberjacks improved 27-6 overall and 15-5 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.

In game one the Tritons struck first when Kendall Baker, who earlier reached on a walk then stole second scored on an rbi single off the bat Kelsi Maday. The Tritons added another run in the bottom of the second on an rbi single to left field by Kendall Baker.

"I have to give credit to UCSD" said Head Coach
Shelli Sarchett. "They came out and put pressure on her right away. What we aren't doing is responding to that pressure very well."

The Lumberjacks got on the board for the first time in the top of the third when
Kelly Sonnemann scored on an fielding error by the shortstop. UCSD answered with two more runs in the bottom of the fourth giving them a 4-1 lead. HSU put up its final run of the game on a rbi double to left center by
Illa Haley which scored
Sydney Roberts.

In Game two the Jacks jumped out to a 2-0 lead when a bunt single by
Sydney Roberts scored
Kelly Sonnemann from third after her one out triple. Roberts later scored on a single through the right side off the bat of
Illa Haley. HSU added its last run of the contest on a sac bunt by
Kelly Sonnemann that scored Lipe.

UCSD scored two runs in the bottom of the sixth but the Jacks were able to hold on and take game two 3-2.

HSU and UCSD Â square off again with another double header tomorrow with first pitch scheduled for
11.am.
