LA JOLLA, Calif. - For the second consecutive day, Humboldt State Softball split a doubleheader with UC San Diego. The Jacks took game one 6-4 and dropped game two 3-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The split puts HSU at 28-7 overall on the season and 16-6 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play. With the game two victory UCSD improves to 21-19 overall and 12-16 in conference play.

The Jacks started game one off with a bang, as a three-run home run to left centerfield of the bat of
Illa Haley gave HSU a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The Tritons answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first on a two run home run by Kelsi Maday.Â

The score remained 3-2 until the top of the fifth inning when
Kathy Orozco scored on an RBI single to center by
Tiffany Hollingsworth.
Illa Haley followed that up with a 2rbi double which extended the HSU lead to 6-2. UCSD rallied in the bottom of the seventh scoring two runs, but the Jacks were able to hold on and take game one 6-4.

Game two saw the Jacks jump out early again as they scored a run in the first two innings of the game to take a 2-0 lead heading into the bottom of the second inning.
Illa Haley added her sixth RBI of the day on a fielder's choice that scored
Sydney Roberts and
Kalyn Paque homered to left center in the top of the second inning. UCSD answered with a run in the bottom of the second making the game 2-1. HSU would be shut out the rest of the game as UCSD was able to add two runs in the bottom of the fifth and take game two 3-2.

The Jacks only get one day of rest as they travel home to take on Chico State in a four game series 4/10-4/11.
