Dairo Kicks Game Winner Versus Urban Knights

SAN FRANCISCO – Fighting its way through a scoreless regulation, Humboldt State men's soccer team recorded its second straight win Friday afternoon versus Academy of Art. Francisco Calderon delivered a sterling cross to Isaiah Dairo at 95:04 during the overtime period to lead the Jacks to a 1-0 victory at the Beach Chalet Fields.

It was the last of Humboldt's 19 shots that ultimately yielded the favorable result, with Head Coach Fred Jungemann saying, "Our games with Academy of Art are always close and difficult, and today was no exception. Both teams fought hard and created good chances. In the end it took some hard work and a great cross from Frankie with a nice finish from Isaiah to make the difference for us."

The Green and Gold improved to 2-1 overall with the win.

Humboldt State's aggressiveness showed itself in the offsides tally and the foul count. The game featured 36 fouls, and the Jacks led the offsides count 6-0. Both Dairo and Calderon took four shots apiece, and three of Dairo's shots were on goal.

Goalkeeper Chris Cherms earned his second straight shutout – the Jacks dispatched Saint Martin's 3-0 in their last match of the Cavalier Classic in Portland last weekend – and saved three shots in his outing. Jungemann was satisfied with his defense's performance saying the achievement of back-to-back shutouts "says a lot about the mentality of this year's team."

The Jacks will remain in San Francisco to take on Holy Names Sunday at 11 a.m. in Nogoesco Stadium.
