Volleyball Falls in Three Versus Toros

ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State volleyball team lost to Cal State Dominguez Hills in straight sets (22-25, 21-25, 19-25) Thursday night in Lumberjack Arena.

The first set was a competitive one with back-and-forth action resulting in four ties and two lead changes. Dominguez Hills jumped out to an 8-4 lead, but the Lumberjacks battled back to tie it at 22 apiece with kills by Lauren Reid and Savannah Horton highlighting the run. HSU captured the next point, and the Toros scored three unanswered to win the set 25-22.

HSU scored the first point of the second set, but Dominguez Hills went on another early run as they jumped out to a 6-1 lead. The Toros felt confident at the halfway point as they held a comfortable 15-8 advantage. The Green and Gold staged a 7-3 run of their own to cut the deficit to 18-15, however, the run came too late and the Toros won with a score of 25-21.

Dominguez Hills took the final set by a score of 25-19. The Toros closed out the match with their best offensive set of the match hitting .378.

Reid led the Jacks with 14 kills, and Juliana Bertolucci finished with a team-high 34 assists.

HSU will look for better results Saturday, Oct. 13, as they face Cal State Los Angeles in Lumberjack Arena at 7 p.m. Saturday's match will be the team's annual Dig for a Cure event. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in support of breast cancer awareness.
