Jacks Bow to Golden Eagles in 3-0 Loss

ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State volleyball team continued to struggle through a difficult season after a 3-0 loss to Cal State Los Angeles Saturday night at Lumberjack Arena.

The Lumberjacks put up a fight against the 17-1 Golden Eagles in the first set. HSU tied the set at 7-7 and used three consecutive attack errors by the visitors to take a 10-7 lead. The teams tied back up at 15, and an attack from Los Angeles was blocked by Hannah Cantrell and Lauren Reid to make it 16-15 in favor of the Jacks. The Golden Eagles held the Jacks at 17 while they took it to 22. HSU battled back and a block error put them back within two at 24-22 before losing 25-22.

HSU took some time to settle into the second set and struggled to stay within striking distance of the high-powered Golden Eagles. Cantrell led the home team with five of its nine kills, but the Jacks lost the set 25-17. The Green and Gold compiled a match-best .171 hitting percentage in the second set.

HSU put four on Los Angeles at the start of the third set, and the Jacks continued momentum drove the score to 9-6. The Golden Eagles tied and drove the score to 13-10. HSU trailed for the remainder of the set and reached 16 before Los Angeles put the match away at 25. Cantrell led the team with 10 kills, followed by Reid with seven.
