Volleyball Falls to Cougars in Straight Sets

SAN MARCOS, Calif. -- The Humboldt State volleyball team suffered a 3-0 loss Saturday afternoon against Cal State San Marcos.

The Lumberjacks struggled mightily in game two of a three-game road trip. HSU compiled a .055 hitting percentage versus San Marcos on the home team's Senior Night.

HSU had more errors than kills in each of the first two sets, and San Marcos dominated as it capitalized on big scoring runs. The Cougars led 14-12 before scoring eight straight points to pull away in a 25-14 victory in the opening set.

The Green and Gold fell behind 2-0 in the second set, but it was five-point spurt that gave San Marcos a 7-1 advantage. The home team never trailed as it captured a 25-16 win in the second frame.

San Marcos led from start to finish in the third set as it wrapped up the match with a 25-17 win.

Hannah Cantrell was HSU's top offensive contributor as she finished with a team-high eight kills. Odelia Ryan led the way with 19 digs, and Juliana Bertolucci provided a team-leading 11 assists.

HSU travels to face Cal State Monterey Bay Sunday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
