SEASIDE, Calif. -- The Humboldt State volleyball team fell to Cal State Monterey Bay in three sets Sunday afternoon in the Kelp Bed.

The Lumberjacks (3-19, 0-14 CCAA) put the first point on the board in the opening set, but Monterey Bay answered with nine of the next 10 points. Lauren Reid, Summer Hansen and Emma Flewell combined for six of HSU's eight kills in set one and helped the team to a match-best .118 hitting percentage. The home team ended the first set with back-to-back kills from Jenna Tobin and Chandler McKean en route to a 25-17 victory.

HSU trailed from beginning to end in the second set as it dropped the frame 25-12. Natalie Picone provided three of the team's five kills.

The third set was the Jacks' best opportunity to earn a set victory. A Taylor Yancey kill gave the North Coast squad a 7-4 lead early and it held on to the lead until midway through the action. With the match tied at 13 all, a pair of errors and three kills from Tobin gave the Otters all the momentum to close out the match. Monterey Bay won the third set 25-18.

Reid led HSU with seven kills, and Juliana Bertolucci recorded 12 assists. Odelia Ryan and Picone finished with 14 and 10 digs, respectively.

The Green and Gold will remain on the road for matches at Stanislaus State and Chico State. HSU will face the Warriors on Friday at 5 p.m.
