HSU Women's Soccer Battles East Bay to 1-1 Tie

ARCATA, Calif. — The Humboldt State women's soccer team ended its 2018 campaign with a 1-1 draw against Cal State East Bay Saturday afternoon at College Creek Field.

The gloomy, overcast Humboldt weather didn't keep anyone away as 327 fans were in attendance to cheer on the Lumberjacks at the Senior Day match. It was HSU who got on the board first with a world-class strike from Pikake Hix at the 40:22 mark. From 40 yards out, the Kahuku, Hawaii, native launched the ball towards goal, clearing defenders and the keeper before finding the back of the net in the top left corner.

In the 76th minute, East Bay tied the match as Jamie McPherson took a free kick from 20 yards out, which she finished in the top right corner. Despite allowing the one goal, HSU's senior goalkeeper Nora Goodrie had a career day as she recorded 13 saves on 20 shots faced while playing the complete 110 minutes.

"These seniors have been an absolute joy to work with over the past four years," said HSU Head Coach Paul Karver. "It will be exciting to see how they impact the world over the next few years."

It was a bittersweet moment as six Lumberjacks played their final game as a member of the Green and Gold. Madison Barnett, Alex Jenkins, Jensen Smith, Jacquelyn Dompier, and Makenna Dunn joined Goodrie as the graduating senior class who led the team to the most successful four-year stretch in the last decade. HSU ended the season with a 6-9-2 overall record and was 3-8-1 in California Collegiate Athletic Association play.
