ARCATA, Calif. – The Humboldt State women's soccer team looks to return to its winning ways as the Lumberjacks host Cal State San Bernardino Friday, and they conclude the weekend against Cal Poly Pomona on Sunday. Friday's game will kick off at 12:30 p.m., while Sunday's match will start at 11:30 a.m.
After jumping out to a 3-1-1 record to begin the season, the Green and Gold have since gone 1-5-0 as they continue the grind of CCAA play. The North Coast squad will lean on senior forward Alex Jenkins, the conference's No. 2 leading scorer, with her six goals (13 points).
"San Bernardino is a great program," said Head Coach Paul Karver. "I think what's exciting about them is they want to play similar to the way we want to play which is very different than what we dealt with this last weekend. CSUSB and Cal Poly are two very well coached teams who like to move the ball. As opposed to large tactical changes to affect two polarizing views of the game, we are going to use really small tactical moves to affect very similar approaches of the game. This I going to be a fantastic footballing weekend with both of those games."
After splitting a pair of games over the weekend, Cal State San Bernardino holds a 3-6-0 overall record and sits 2-2-0 in the conference. Junior forward Kelly Kervershan leads the Coyotes offensive charge with six goals as she sits right behind Jenkins with 12 points.
HSU dropped last year's match against Cal State San Bernardino, 5-0, and holds a 4-12-0 record against the Coyotes in program history.
Cal Poly Pomona enters the weekend with a 4-5-1 overall record and is 0-3-1 in conference. Freshman goalkeeper Sydney Williams has been tough in goal for opposing offenses as she is second in the conference with four shutouts. Williams has 30 saves on 67 shots faced with 772:05 minutes played.
The North Coast squad traveled to Pomona last year and handed Cal Poly a 1-0 loss. The Green and Gold are 5-10-1 all-time when playing the Broncos.
