Jacks Ride Team Effort to 100-55 Win Over Douglas College

BURNABY, B.C. – Five Humboldt State men's basketball players scored in double figures as the Lumberjacks made quick work of Douglas College, 100-55, Sunday evening in Simon Fraser University's West Gym.

The Green and Gold evened their record at 2-2 with the win.

"Defensively we played better tonight," said HSU Head Coach Steve Kinder. "Step by step we are improving as a team with these game experiences. This preseason schedule is designed to prepare us for a tough conference schedule. We are excited about our win tonight, and we will reload again for tomorrow's game."

HSU brushed off consecutive losses and got back on the winning track with a complete team effort versus Douglas College. The Jacks led for all but 34 seconds of Saturday's win as they scored the first basket and took a 10-point advantage, 17-7, with 13:41 left in the first half. A 29-4 run in the final 8:33 of the half gave the Green and Gold a 54-24 lead. Justin Everett and Zachariah Christian had eight points apiece in the first 20 minutes.

The North Coast team emptied its bench in the second half and continued to dominate the competition. HSU shot 51.4 percent from the field and added 46 more points to its score in the last period. LJ Williams paced the Jacks' second-half scoring effort with nine, and he finished with a team-best 15 points.

Christian (13), Everett (10), Jackson Strong (12) and Calvin Young II (11) recorded 10 or more points in the win. Hunter Johnson was the Jacks' leader in assists with six and pulled down a team-best nine boards.

HSU wraps up its Canadian road trip with a game against Capilano University Monday at 7 p.m.
